“Children are the World’s Most Valuable Resource and its Best Hope for the Future.” President John F. Kennedy, July 25, 1963. Address at UNICEF, New York, N.Y.
Because of his love for children and wanting to see them succeed in life, Albert F. Spencer became a professional educator. He is greatly concerned about the attack on morals and family values that pervades society today and has entered into the political world in the hope of being able to make a difference. One of his favorite quotations is by Ralph Waldo Emerson: “To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child…or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you lived. This is to have succeeded.” We must create a kinder and more human world today, for our children’s tomorrow.
• 25% of America’s preschool children grow up in poverty. This figure is even higher in the Fifth Congressional District of South Carolina. We must work to eliminate the conditions that cause poverty
• South Carolina leads the nation in cases of child abuse
• In many communities, young people have lost their moral direction and their sense of belonging. Gangs should never replace family or school activities.
Albert F. Spencer is in complete agreement with Secretary of State Colin Powell’s statement at the Republican National Convention in 2000, “We are obliged to make sure that every child gets a healthy start in life. With all our wealth and capacity, we just can’t stand idly by. We must make sure that every child in America has access to quality health care. We owe them nothing less.”
Albert F. Spencer believes that situations involving child neglect and abuse must be a major priority for our nation. Prevention prior to such instances of neglect and abuse, rather than treatment after the fact, is essential.
Pre-school and Early Childhood Education programs are crucial to later success in school. Albert Spencer will fight for children’s right to a quality education, from toddler to life long learners as adults. He will not compromise education as key to America’s greatness.
