Political correctness does not always imply moral or ethical values. Politics must be based on moral choices, dignity and a respect for human life. The fundamental question should not be, “Are you better off now than you were at the last election?” Instead, it must be, “How can we be better off in the future? How can we promote life, dignity and morality? How can we pursue justice and lasting peace?” (USCCB). |

As November 2 draws near, we call for a new kind of politics: a politics that is based on moral principles, not on the latest polls, the desires of special interests, or the rich and powerful. The founding fathers of our great nation based our constitution upon moral principles. I want to see a return to these principles instead of a steady erosion of morals and family values in our society. South Carolina has the right to be proud of its heritage as one of the original 13 United States of America. Today, however, we have many very serious problems: only 50% of our children who start in school remain to graduate; we rank last in SAT scores in the U.S.A.; our highways are among the most dangerous in the nation; 25% of America’s preschool children grow up in poverty and nearly 1 in 5 elderly persons live in poverty—these figures are even higher in our district; our literacy rate is the lowest in the nation; the highest rate of abortions in South Carolina are among teenage girls 14-19 years of age; and, many of our citizens do not have decent, affordable housing, or jobs. Whether you are a Republican, Democrat, or Independent, I urge you to visit our website at www.spencer4congress.com to learn about our solutions to essential issues such as the dignity of life from conception to natural death, economic and social justice, affordable and accessible health care, and cultural equality. There are a great many social needs and injustices that must be addressed in our nation. Please consider that the most basic of all human rights and our most God-given inalienable right is the right to life. The Christian faith, and many other religions, teaches that God is the source of all life and the foundation of all freedom. Freedom is the right of those who have the courage to defend it. If we refuse to fight for the dignity of truth, we have substituted expediency for justice. I chose to run for the United States House of Representatives and support the people of the Fifth Congressional District in South Carolina as a member of the Republican Party because I firmly believe that this party’s platform is founded on values that will strengthen our nation and not weaken it. The Fifth Congressional District has never had a Republican Congressman. It is time for change, for your future and theirs! It is time for change, for your future and theirs! In sports, there is an adage: “There is no I in TEAM.” Together, we can strengthen our communities and once again return the State of South Carolina and the United States of America to the ideas of the Republic for which our flag stands. Alexander Hamilton remarked to visitors from another country while describing the newly constructed Capitol Building, “Here, Sir and Madam, is where the people govern.” If elected, my pledge to you as a voter is to work with you as a member of a team to make America truly, “One nation under God with liberty and justice for all.” A congressman must represent all of the people, not just donors and special interest groups. I want to ask you for one of the most precious things you own – your vote. This is a critical election year in that your vote is essential in terms of the impact it will have on future generations yet to be born. I would be very appreciative if you share my candidacy with your family and friends. Thank you. May God Bless you and God Bless America! |
