National Security

"This is a day when all Americans from every walk of life unite in our resolve for justice and peace. America has stood down enemies before, and we will do so this time. None of us will ever forget this day. Yet, we go forward to defend freedom and all that is good and just in our world". Statement by President George W. Bush, September 11, 2001.

Albert F. Spencer believes deeply in the prayer attributed to Saint Francis, “Lord, Make me an instrument of your peace.” There is neither an injustice nor a sorrow greater than the inhumanity of war. Terrorists, or any dictators, must be held accountable for their actions.

Albert F. Spencer believes that security, law enforcement, and corrections are all interrelated. The prevention of criminal behavior, the rehabilitation of offenders, and a system that equally serves justice and rights for all must be a priority of any government. Accordingly, Albert F. Spencer advocates increased funding at both the local and state levels for police and increased funding for firefighters. This funding can be achieved without increasing taxes by greater accountability in government spending. A government must be accountable to the people it serves. Waste must be controlled and eliminated. Further, he supports the following issues in the war on terror and crime:

*
Impose truth in sentencing for violent criminals so they serve full sentences without parole
*
Require that crimes based on gender, race, sexual orientation or disability be prosecuted as Federal hate crimes
*
Programs to provide prison inmates with drug and alcohol addiction, be given treatment as well as vocational and job related skills and assistance when released.

Secretary of State, Colin L. Powell stated at Princeton University on February 20, 2004, “we must build a better future even as we deal with the security challenges before us. That is how we’ll overcome those challenges, because it’s not enough to fight against a negative, like terrorism. We must focus on what inspires us, on what brings the good people of the world together. We’ve got to fight for the positive—for liberty, for freedom, for democracy.” Albert F. Spencer is in complete agreement with this positive approach to national, and worldwide, security for now and for the future.
